We are honoured to announce the Keynote speaker for Day Two of DrupalCon Sydney is Senator the Hon Kate Lundy, Minister Assisting for Innovation and Industry.
Senator Lundy is well known amongst the Australian open source community, and well regarded in open government circles around the world. Given Drupal’s wide adoption by governments and public companies, non-profits and open data initiatives around the world, we are very excited to have Senator Lundy deliver a keynote address titled, “From Open Source to Open Government.”
Senator Lundy is a powerful advocate inside government for the use of the Internet, digital technology and ICT innovation. She has participated in every Senate Inquiry relating to telecommunications and Information Technology over fifteen years, and spearheaded Gov 2.0 initiatives such as Public Sphere events to facilitate online public collaboration on policy development.
Technology plays a critical role in the Australian economy. It is transforming public engagement in government processes and enhances social inclusion within communities across the continent. Senator Lundy will discuss the lessons governments are learning from open source software, technologies, and communities, exploring how diverse communities can collaborate effectively online. She will also talk about Open Government in Australia and the extraordinary progress made in recent years.
As announced previously, the Keynote for Day One is Drupal project founder, Dries Buytaert. Dries continues the tradition of delivering a 'Dries-note' at all previous DrupalCon’s as well as Australia's annual Drupal Downunder conferences in Melbourne in 2012 and Brisbane in 2011. In addition to serving as the president of the Drupal Association, he is the co-founder and CTO of Acquia, a company providing hosting, technical support, and services for the Drupal platform.
